Have you been feeling frustrated and helpless in your artistic growth and career development, as if you’re stuck perpetually in one spot and cannot move forward? Has hoarding all kinds of instructional material been mostly unhelpful, because you don’t know how to utilize all that information, or which ones to trust? Were you disappointed by the past classes you took, because they didn’t teach you what you really needed to know to excel as a visual artist? Do you know a lot of theory and can critique other people’s work, but your own work doesn’t seem to be getting any better?

Is you answered yes to any of those questions, then this workshop is for you.

The 2014 March-May run of Becoming A Better Artist workshop is now open for enrollment:

workshops.cgsociety.org/course…

The workshop will be from March 10 to May 05.

Student Testimonials:

“I'm learning more about the process of creation here than I ever did in four years of studying in art-schools.”

- Emil Assarsson, student January - March 2013

Well, after having gone through this workshop, I can sum my experience up with one question for Rob: "Where have you been all my life?" In all seriousness, if something like this had existed many years ago it might have made a profound difference in how my career has turned out thus far."

- Dave Cherry, student January - March 2013

"I've had countless mentors in the past from elementary through college (and beyond), but I can only name a handful that really made a big impact on my life.  You sir are one of them. I can't speak for everyone and everyone has their own methods and ways... but Rob you have really changed me as an artist.  It has given me a better understanding and assessment of where I am, who I am and what I need to do to become who I want to become. Your class not only taught me how to become a better artist, but a better person in general, and I just want you to know that that is something I will always remember and cherish from hereon out.

- Lloyd Romero, student March – May 2013

"I really feel it has saved me years of struggle and disappointment. After going through the workshop I can tell that I have been looking for something like this course for a long- long time. I feel like I have been given a huge kick and put on the right track to become a better artist. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into your critiques and lectures."

- Laszlo Hyikos, student July - September 2013

“I knew there were huge gaps in my knowledge and ability, but try as I might I just couldn’t work out how to overcome them. The best way I can explain is it feels as though I’m standing at the base of a huge mountain, and the art I want to be able to make is right at the top with all the advanced artists out there, and I didn’t know how to get there. You’ve shown us all where the path is, and explained how to cross it safely, heck you’ve even given us a map, a list of supplies, and team to journey with. It’s simply up to us now to shape up and put in the time and effort to get there.."

- Dawn Lincoln, student January – March 2013

You Sir, are an Artist's Guardian! I wanna have a picture of you, put in a locket and carry it always with me- So that when discouraged, sad, mad and lost, I can consult you and count on you. You are an Artist Saint. That is how I see you. Thank You! The whole class was so eye opening and mind blowing that I had moments where I wanted to cry and scream or hide under the bed or punch a puppy. Just saying that it was intense, will not cut it.

- Hope Brackin, student March - May 2013

Although the workshop will be from October 7th to December 1st, the dates are merely formality, as my workshop is in reality an on-going mentorship that will last for as long as you still need my help. All of my alumni students have access to a private forum where I continue to mentor all of them. I answer their questions, give them advice on how to more efficiently learn and practice, help them with their personal growth and career strategies, give them critiques on their latest works, share useful resources with them, etc. For many of the students, the alumni forum itself is the true value of the workshop, because it keeps on going and has no end date, and they can come to me anytime for help and I'll always help them.

Although the workshop will be from July 29th to September 23rd, the dates are merely formality, as my workshop is in reality an on-going mentorship that will last for as long as you still need my help. The next run of Becoming A Better Artist workshop is now open for enrollment: workshops.cgsociety.org/course…

The workshop will be from September 10th to November 4th.

We had 3 consecutive sold out runs of the workshops this year, and the past two runs went over the enrollment limit due to high demand. It's extra work on my end, and I have to stay up later to help the students with critiques and questions, but it's worth it, because I can help more students reach their goals and make their dreams come true–to become the artist they aspire to be, and to achieve the career goals they are chasing after.

I know a lot of you have been wanting to join us, and have been waiting for the right timing or saving up for it. I'm going to keep running this workshop for as long as I can, and when you are ready to come and join us, you'll become part of the alumni students community, with our own private forum for critiques, discussions about personal artistic growth, portfolio/career development, and on-going mentoring from me, as well as mutual support and friendship from fellow alumni students. It's a much cozier atmosphere compared to large, anonymous forums, because all the alumni students have been through the same experienced during the workshop, and for many, it's been a transcendent experience in artistic growth, self-awareness, discovery, and huge boost in skill, knowledge, and confidence.

For those of you yet to experience the workshop, we're waiting for you to come and join us.

Some past student testimonials:

"I have never before came across such knowledgable experience. I have already learnt more than two people could dream of. The class notes literally blow my mind with sudden realisations and it's turning me into a much more aware person when it comes to general observation and artistic skills. I couldn't recommend your workshop enough really. I always partially believed in blessings and you are truly one of them. Thanks mate!"
- Josh Bailey, student October - December 2010

"This course value just paid off, in my opinion, after the first week alone."
- Jacek Krzykowski, student June - August 2010

"You've now set an impossibly high bar for all my future teachers"
- Suresh V. Selvaraj, student July 2011

"You know those times in life when you think about your choices at a given time, were they good, were they bad? Who would i be if turned left on that road instead of right? Well, now i look back and i`m so happy that i make the turn into this workshop. I was lost. Without any clue of how to achieve my goals, overwhelmed with information, overwhelmed by amazing work being posted everyday, and absolutely no idea how to get there. Every Monday morning i felt like a kid unwrapping the Christmas presents while i was reading through the notes, even the anticipation " New notes tomorrow...sweeet!". Everything was so well organized, written and exemplified for our needs as an artist, the assignments so well planned to push you further, step, by step, with precise feedback."
- Luis Gama, student May - July 2011

"When I initially read the class description and objectives I thought that it was all too nice to be true ... I started the class with the hope that it would at least partially meets its goals but I am very glad to have found out that the course meets all its goals and that it has given me much more then I could ever hope for. I have been going to art school for 5 years but this course managed to teach me so much more in just a couple of weeks ..."

The 4th run (October 11, 2010) of my workshop Becoming A Better Artist – Critical knowledge and techniques for today's artists will be starting soon, and there's still time to enroll before it starts.

The past three runs of the workshop has been amazing. You can read about all the past students' testimonials and glowing praises in the workshop details page and also in this official thread.
My workshop Becoming A Better Artist – Critical knowledge and techniques for today's artists is now open for enrollment. After more than a year's worth of blood, sweat, and tears, it's finally ready to go live. Space is limited (only 35 students will be accepted), so definitely act fast. The course will start on March 8th and will last eight weeks. Whether it will repeat in the future will depend on popular demand, so if you don't get in the first time, definitely let CGSociety.org know that you want to see it repeated. If you want even more details about the workshop or want to ask question, get yourself over to this announcement thread.

The first run of the workshop is going to be very interesting, as I'll find out if it's possible to teach so much content in just eight weeks. I hope the students will be a real pleasure to teach--passionate aspiring artists who are hungry for knowledge, craves guidance, motivated, and hopefully smart and talented as well.
I get requests to purchase prints of my work periodically over the years, and I used to have prints of my work available years ago through another service, and they are now out of business. (Luckily the Corel Painter team got to buy a print of my Mood1 painting and hung it in their office for inspiration. I found out about this when they contacted me and asked to feature my work in Painter). I keep meaning to find another service and I've been putting it off for too long. I'm now finally going to take another shot at it here with DA's printing service. I'm going to test the water a little and see how it goes. If things go well I may upgrade to the premium service. If any of you have suggestions or advice, I'd love to hear them.
